The blast furnace is charged continuously with iron-bearing burden, slag formers, and coke. The iron burden consists of sinter, pellets, and/or lumpy ore in various proportions. Slag formers are usually limestone, BOF slag, and quartzite in small amounts to balance the slag rate and chemistry.
